Ingredients:

4 1/3 cups water
4 ounces sugar
4 cloves
1/2 teaspoon ground allspice
1 cinnamon stick
juice of 4 lemon
1-2 inches strip of lemon peel

Instructions:

Put the water into a preserving pan with the sugar and spices. Bring slowly to the boil, cover and simmer for 10 minutes. Strain then stir in the lemon juice. Drink hot with a twist of lemon.
